The first real indie hip hop show I ever went to was Eyedea & Abilities in 2004. They had just dropped E&A which I had been listening to start to finish for about a month. The venue was a grimy little club near downtown Madison Wisconsin and I had no idea what to expect. Within minutes of the opening act, my mind was blown. On stage was an energetic and aggressive beatboxer and rapper by the name of Carnage The Executioner who was a close friend of Eyedea and a frequent guest on his albums. He got the crowd pumped up with rapid-fire vocal delivery and, for me, was the highlight of the night. Blueprint and Eyedea & Abilities followed with great performances, but Carnage's set was what stuck with me.
A year later I was attending school at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities. A big reason I chose to go to college there was the great music coming out of the area, most notably - the Rhymesayers roster. In 2007 I randomly ran into Carnage and to this day we remain good friends.
In 2014, Carnage asked if I could help him revamp his website. WildStyle Marketing rebuilt the site from the ground up, including a feature slider, full store, uninterrupted music player, events section and much more. Since re-designing his website, Carnage has experienced increased traffic, music downloads and merchandise sales. Check out our work below!
As mentioned above, the first hip hop concert I attended was an Eyedea & Abilities show. During my time in high school, indie hip hop became my go-to genre. The content, emotion and thought-inspiration it provoked in me was not found in any other form of music. And Eyedea was consistently found in my headphones and car speakers. Few other artists were as real, poetic and gritty as Micheal Larsen A.K.A. Eyedea.
It was a very sad day when I learned the news that Micheal had lost his battle with addiction. It's a struggle I know of first hand, and it takes way too many bright minds away from us.
I was honored when Micheal's friends and family reached out to WildStyle to help update his official website. His music and art live on through this website, but it desperately needed a face-lift. We simplified the website while making it more vibrant and exciting at the same time. Restructuring the navigation and completely overhauling the webstore resulted in a more inviting and user-friendly experience. Check out the website below!
